Types of Contacts

Tungsten Composite Rivet Contacts Tungsten contacts are used where hardness and a high melting point are required and are available in a variety of sizes. Due to fairly high resistance, tungsten is usually limited to the two to six ampere range and requires quite high closing forces. Main advantages are resistance to welding and erosion and, hence, a long contact life.In the manufacture of tungsten composites, the tungsten discs are either silver or copper brazed to copper or nickel-plated steel backings. In applications where the contact may encounter high humidity, corrosion may result due to galvanic action. This can be compensated for by the addition of a thin nickel plate available on request.
