 Mechanical Lab Technician, Bloomfield CT.

 

The Mechanical Lab Technician is responsible for the mechanical testing of laboratory samples.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure sample identity throughout the analysis procedure.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure a timely analysis of all samples.
  • Perform required mechanical tests for all samples following the proper work instructions and good laboratory techniques.
  • Properly store all data and quality records.
  • Verify test results with alloy work instructions and / or customer specifications to ensure compliance.  If any value is outside the acceptable range, then notify the Lab Supervisor or other designated personnel and take the appropriate action.
  • Enter all mechanical data into the laboratory database.
  • Assist in housekeeping, as required, to keep the lab a clean and safe work environment.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist other Lab Technicians when it is warranted by the workload and / or at the request of the Lab Supervisor.
  • Assist with special projects as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of basic metallurgical principles and laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to safely work with hazardous chemicals, primarily concentrated acids, used in preparing samples for metallographic examination.
  • Computer skills including knowledge of MS Access, Word, Excel and other Windows or Web based applications.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A.S. in Metallurgy or related discipline or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • One year experience in the operation of physical testing equipment (tensile testing, micro hardness testing, mount preparation, metallographic examination, etc.).
  • Some experience in chemical practices and analysis desirable (specifically solution chemistry, ICP, and / or XRF analysis).
