Network Engineer  - CT         

Description:
 
Provides administration, support, and maintenance of system hardware, software and LAN/WAN network traffic/infrastructure. 
 
Principal job Duties:
  • In consultation with IT Software Manager, schedules, plans and assists in implementation of existing and new applications.
  • In consultation with IT Network Manager, schedules, plans and assists in implementation of existing and new hardware.  
  • Monitor and manage the day to day administrative tasks of a Windows Server multisite environment.
  • Installation and maintenance of peripheral devices, including but not limited to printers, routers, switches, thin clients, etc. in accordance to IT department and company policies, procedures and guidelines. 
  • Analyze system/network resources in order to improve and maintain server and network efficiency.
  • Perform system upgrades and patching at OS level and application level as needed.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and work with other IT staff to ensure a high level of efficiency and uptime.
  • Manage system backup and restore process per IT department guidelines.
  • Monitor Active Directory and maintain O.U. and group policy structure.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves application, server, and network issues.
  • Provides back up support as needed for desktop support issues and tickets.
  • Maintains e-mail and phone systems and adds users as required.
  • Adds and maintains users on the network; assigning application access, ensuring security and ensuring their configurations are maintained within IT Department and organization standards.
  • Assists in providing computer/network support relating to hardware problems reported by users.
  • Develops and recommends approaches to network growth and enhancements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications and maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • On call coverage will be required as needed.
  • Protects DNI’s value by keeping information confidential.
Experience:
  • Five plus years of experience with LAN technologies, including multiple network operating systems and Wide Area Networking.
  • Four year IT related degree required.
  • Experience in a client/server environment preferably in manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with PC and server hardware technology, file interchange, shared network resources, internet access, electronic mail and phone systems.
  • Demonstrated analytic, written and verbal communication skills.
