The Head of Product Management is a high profile, dynamic position of leadership that oversees all activities of the product management group through the life cycle of products. Beginning with a blank slate, this new to the company role is tasked with creating the Product Management team and instituting the best practices of this role company wide. This is inclusive of prioritizing requirements for the product, defining its vision and collaborating with engineering, operations and the sales organization to ensure both financial and customer requirements are met. This position also ensures that the company overall strategy and goals are supported by the product goals and do not deviate from the business strategy. This role is of a cross-functional nature working closely with Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Customer Service, Operations, R&D, as well as have significant interface with customers. The Head of Product Management will be expected to lead the Product Management team while directly managing one of the available product lines.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of team to drive business results that are aligned with strategy.
  • Create the vision that cultivates the department member’s product vision to align with business capabilities and market needs.
  • Responsible for leading the P&L for a select product portfolio and developing and executing pricing strategies for the assigned products to optimize growth and profitability.
  • Focus on maximizing asset utilization, product rationalization, and new product development project management.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic and annual operating plans and lead efforts of a cross-functional team efforts to meet evolving customer and market needs, including the creation, deployment and maintenance of a product roadmap.
  • Lead execution of multi-generation product plans including: new product introductions and line extensions, product re-engineering and cost out, and other sales tools and communication of product and service program changes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of key segment communication plans including product promotions, data sheets, selling sheets, training, PR, advertising, website, on-line marketing material etc.
  • Participate in external events and end user calls/visits to understand market insights and trends and ensure our strategies are aligned to meet future needs.
  • Utilize personal industry knowledge and contacts to expand company’s sales.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to support growth and/or product development initiatives.
  • Solve customer problems through interface with technical service, production, quality assurance, and customer service.
  • Maintain sales volume, product mix, and selling price by keeping current with supply and demand, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors.
  • Research, analyze and monitor financial, technological and competitive factors so that market opportunities may be capitalized on and the effects of competitive activity may be minimized.
  • Secure and build business cases and capacity expansion plans to deliver on longer range forecasts.
  • Create, maintain, and update multi-year forecasts at least quarterly.
  • Analyze competition and develop and execute strategies to capture market share or price improvement opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering undergraduate degree or experience working in a technical, business to business environment.
  • Master's degree, MBA, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience leading a technical product line with demonstrated growth and performance or related commercial experience.
  • 3- 5 years’ experience in a management role, leading direct reports either in a related engineering discipline.
  • A dynamic cross-functional team leader with the ability to influence and manage non-direct reports.
  • Ability to build support and excitement among an informal, cross-functional team in a matrixed organization.
  • Expertise in solution-based manufacturing or similar materials, leading a niche product with competitive advantages.
  • Market knowledge of the medical device, dental, sensor, automotive, telecommunications, connector, semiconductor, and/or electronics industries.
  • Good analytical, strategic, and communication skills.
  • Strong financial and business insight with a consistent track record of results.
  • Attested project leadership and critical thinking skills.
  • 20% travel as business permits.
