Mechanical Lab Technician – Bloomfield, CT
The Mechanical Lab Technician is responsible for the mechanical testing of laboratory samples.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prioritize workload to ensure a timely testing of all samples.

Ensure sample identity throughout the testing procedure.

Perform required mechanical tests for all samples following the proper work instructions and good laboratory techniques.

Verify test results with alloy work instructions and / or customer specifications to ensure compliance. If any value is outside the acceptable range, then notify the Lab Supervisor or other designated personnel and take the appropriate action.

Enter all mechanical data into the laboratory database.

Perform housekeeping as required to ensure the lab is a clean and safe working environment.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist other Lab Technicians when it is warranted by the workload and/or the request of Lab Supervisor.

Assist with special projects as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-
Working knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques.
-
Must be able to prioritize workload and multi-task.
-
Ability to safely work with hazardous chemicals, primarily with concentrated acids and other chemicals in preparing samples for metallographic examination.

Possess a working knowledge of MS Office applications.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
-
A.S. degree in related STEM discipline preferred. High school diploma with relevant industrial or laboratory experience is acceptable.

One year of experience in the operation of mechanical testing equipment (tensile testing, microhardness testing, mount preparation, metallographic examination, etc.).

Some experience in laboratory practices used in analytical chemistry/analysis is helpful (specifically solution preparation, ICP and or XRF).
