Melter Operator Materials Fabrication,  Bloomfield, CT

General operation of materials mill equipment to include weigh scales, high rolling mills, slitters, wire & rod rolling, wire drawing for intermediate and fine wire, draw benches, rod & wire straightening, shape rolling, annealing strip furnaces, batch furnaces, & strand annealing furnaces, tensile testers, future equipment and new technology.
Melting processes - melt and cast metal per specific instructions and schedule. Cast into book molds, rod mold or others as needed.  Melt and cast utilizing continuous casting equipment.  Follow casting schedules and report production.
Essential Functions:
  • Work with production control and all other manufacturing departments to produce quality castings or mill products on schedule.
  • Have full understanding of company policies, paperwork, and systems to repeatedly produce quality materials products.
  • Must work well in a “team environment”.
  • Must follow shop order dates and processes accurately while informing supervisors or engineers of any non-conformances.
  • Strive to continually improve processes, equipment efficiencies, and quality.
  • Be willing to train and operate various pieces of mill equipment as assigned by supervision.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Review job requirements at the beginning of each shift.
  • Notify supervision when any job may go “overdue” and why.
  • Inspect and sign off for quality on each operation and complete M2M reporting for each operation.
  • Maintain material identity throughout processing.
  • Follow operator and maintenance logs as required.
  • Maintain tooling and equipment integrity on a daily basis and notify supervision in advance for potential needs.
  • Work with other operators to communicate, and coordinate job flow through the melting and materials department.
  • Must maintain a neat and clean workplace.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to operate the equipment above or demonstrate the ability to be successfully trained.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Use of measuring devices.
  • Legible writing skills.
Training and Experience:
  • Metal processing, casting or welding experience a plus.
