Payroll and Benefits Specialist – Bloomfield, CT


The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for all activities related to payroll, including but not limited to: processing payroll on a weekly basis, creating payroll reports, and being the SME for the payroll processing system, the payroll and benefits specialist will also be responsible for administering the benefits programs. This would include new hire orientations and maintaining of 401K and profit sharing contributions.


  • Process weekly payroll account transactions such as salary, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes, and ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll runs.
  • Resolve issues and answer payroll related questions.
  • Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by understanding existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Manage FMLA claims and provide assistance with unemployment related matters.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations at all times.
  • Liaise with auditors and/or accounting team regarding payroll taxes and year end reporting.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of employee benefit and retirement programs.
  • Administer and manage benefit, retirement, insurance and wellness programs.
  • Supply employees with documents related to enrolling, maintaining and understanding benefit coverage.
  • Analyze effectiveness of benefit programs and make recommendations to increase employee participation.
  • Oversees unemployment and workers compensation processes as required by state and federal laws.


  • Bachelor's degree specializing in Human Resources or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum (3) years of experience in Human Resources with a focus in Payroll Administration.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in Benefits Administration.


  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, with a strong focus in Excel.
  • Experience with Paychex, ADP or similar payroll systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and support other areas of HR as needed.
  • Experience troubleshooting payroll processing systems and auditing transactions.
