Production Manager – Materials and Process Metallurgy – Bloomfield, CT

 

The Production Manager, Materials and Process Metallurgy monitors and coordinates all aspects of the Materials department required to meet the quality and scheduled delivery of product, while constantly exploring and engaging in continuous improvement activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct, supervise and coordinate all technical and production activities associated with rod, wire and strip manufacture, including melting, casting, welding, rolling, slitting, drawing, annealing, heat treating, spooling, cleaning and tumbling.
  • Through supervisors and team leads, maintain production schedule to insure on-time deliveries and highlight capacity issues. (SPOC 25-30ee)
  • Instruct Process Engineering on priorities for ensuring effective engineering support on capacity, quality or cost concerns.
  • Work with Materials Process Engineering on process development for new products (alloys), continuous improvement and cost reductions, creating and maintaining routings and BOM’s in ERP.
  • Assure compliance to quality standards and internal programs such as NC and CPA documentation.
  • Develop the department’s capabilities through modification or procurement of equipment, training of staff, or hiring of qualified personnel.
  • Responsible for establishing and tracking key business performance measures.
  • Involved in the development of new alloys and processes in conjunction with R&D as required.
  • Assist in providing technical and production capacity information needed for quoting and other sales support.
  • Account for precious metal inventory maintaining security and controls to monitor and minimize raw material inventory within the department.
  • Adhere to all company and human resource policies and procedures fostering a strong and dedicated work ethic resulting in continued productivity and quality improvements.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment continuing the 5S culture.
  • Evaluate performance, develop and motivate production personnel through annual reviews and regular feedback, coaching, and training as necessary to broaden worker skillsets and flexibility within the department.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide “hands on” and “working knowledge” for the metallurgical and technical development of alloys and metalworking processes.
  • Advise management on the proper procurement and selection of metalworking equipment for metalworking operations.
  • Provide technical customer assistance in troubleshooting and use of Deringer-Ney Inc. alloys in specific applications.
  • Insure the department operates within the prescribed budgetary constraints.
  • Monitor and insure that all processing is developed utilizing the most cost effective and quality oriented operations.
  • Assist in the quotation process of new items involving new alloys and/or changes in the metallurgical processing.
  • Provide and promote a “hands on” approach and leadership to the Materials and Process Metallurgy department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of modern metallurgical principals and metalworking processes required to product Deringer-Ney Inc. alloys in a quality and timely fashion.
  • Project Management skills to direct and manage projects involving new alloys and processes.
  • Documentation and data retrieval of all necessary information regarding the technical processing of Deringer-Ney Inc. alloys.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to “lead by example” promoting integrity and company loyalty.
  • Computerized skills such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, and Project.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S., Metallurgy or Materials Science, other suitable technical discipline, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the technical requirements required to establish quality oriented, cost effective, timely metallurgical processes.
  • Familiarity and exposure to the fundamental design and function of metalworking equipment including an understanding of the necessary engineering principles.
  • Five (5) years or more experience in a similar technical management environment.
