REPORTS TO:  Engineering Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Rod, Strip, and Wire Processing Engineer serves as an in-house expert on rod, strip, and wire rolling machines, heat treating furnaces, and ultrasonic cleaning machines set-up, operation and troubleshooting. Processing Engineer works closely with machine operators to assist them in the daily production of parts.  This hands-on role requires a thorough understanding of machine functionality as it relates to generating supporting documentation and the training of others. This role also implements new or specialty part numbers as directed through Program Management. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Through daily hands-on interaction, become an expert in heat treating, ultrasonic cleaning, rod, strip, and wire rolling operations.
  • Master the operation of specific unique and seldom-used heat treating, ultrasonic cleaning, rod, strip, and wire rolling equipment.
  • Provide operational coverage to Lead Setup Operators during their absences.
  • Execute projects as delegated by Engineering Manager.
  • Coordinate with Quality Engineer and other team members investigate into those issues identified by daily metrics, including production output and quality non-conformances. 
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts into production problems in the heat treating, ultrasonic cleaning, rod, strip, and wire rolling areas.
  • Implement changes as directed though the Continuous Improvement initiatives.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open to Production/Engineering Management responsibilities including hire, train and appraise performance of direct employees.  Assist in the training and development of departmental operators and technicians.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Hands-on experience in material forming and heat treating.
  • Knowledge of material forming and heat treating equipment.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and measure dimensional attributes.
  • Must have excellent team skills, both as team member as well as a trainer and developer.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Must be able to drive change and introduce innovative solutions for process improvement.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Material Science Engineer, Industrial Engineer, or other Engineering Disciples.
  • Minimum 5 years directly related experience in material forming and manufacturing.
