IT Senior Systems Administrator - Bloomfield, CT

The Senior Systems Administrator serves as a technical expert in the areas of system and network administration for complex operating systems, LAN / WAN infrastructure and various network hardware.  The Senior Systems Administrator recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems, systems infrastructure, framework for system applications, and more.  Investigates and analyzes feasibility of hardware and server system requirements and develops system specifications.  Identifies methods and solutions as well as planning and implementation in order to achieve the highest level of performance tuning, recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems and provide the highest level of service to the customers of the IT Department.
 
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Consult and strategize with IT Management on IT based projects for the long term success of the department and organization.
  • Works with outside vendors and consultants to design and plan business continuity processes.  Analyze current performance against available technology.
  • Monitor and manage the day-to-day administrative tasks of a virtualized Windows server multi-site environment.
  • Analyze system resources and maintain server and network efficiency.  Perform system upgrades and patching at OS, network appliance, and application level.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and work with other IT staff to ensure a high level of efficiency and uptime.
  • Work with IT Management to control client desktops and servers for remote administration.
  • Administration of the ESX virtual server farm.  Includes updates, hardware, and new builds.
  • Interface with vendors and service providers on a technical level.
  • Schedules, plans, and implements new applications and hardware in coordination with all other IT staff.  Upgrade, stage, and deploy server hardware.
  • Manage Activity Directory structure, network structure and file permission, and printing environment.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves router, server, telephony, and network WAN/LAN issues.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned by IT Management. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years' experience in hardware / system administration / network administration is required.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Windows desktop / server operating systems.
    • Current equipment and technologies in use.
    • Server system administration.
    • Enterprise back-up and recovery procedures.
    • System performance monitoring tools.
    • Effective project management techniques.
  • Ability to:
    • Plan, organize, and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with organization policies / procedures.
    • Communicate technical / complex information both verbally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust, and credibility.
    • Perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.

SKILLS:

  • Expert knowledge in Windows Server Operating Systems, Email Services (Exchange preferred), MS SQL Server, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Virus Protection SW, Dell Servers, Thin Clients, Firewall HA pairs, Switches, Routers, Cisco UCM Telephony Systems, Tape Backup SW, SAN Technology.
  • ERP software experience required.
