Sr. Calibration Technician - Bloomfleld, CT

Support the Quality Management System (QMS) by processing manufacturing retained records into a usable electronic filing system.  Maintain the records retention by ensuring that the documents are legible and retrievable.


  • The Calibration Technician is primarily responsible for the Calibration of equipment, gages and tools as defined and controlled through the company calibration system. In addition the Calibration Technician is charged with the maintenance of the system and applicable procedures.

  • Follows policies and procedures with regard to the Quality System and or company as they apply.

  • Ensures maintenance and improvement of the Quality System through routine system audits and corrective actions as they apply to the calibration system.

  • Plans activities and coordinates with other company resources to ensure controlled instrumentation is being evaluated on a timely basis as defined by the calibration frequency.

  • Determines cycle of calibration based on manufacturer’s recommendations, usage, wear, internal/external requirements, damage, vendor/supplier requirements and any other special gauging considerations to ensure the highest level of repeatability and accuracy.

  • Maintains gage list showing controlled gage locations and calibration cycle.

  • Coordinates with gage manufacturers and suppliers and assists in trouble shooting, repair and replacement of worn, lost or damaged gages, indicating and measuring devices. Also responsible for the control and coordination of external calibration services and customer supplied gages.

  • Well versed in Metrology, MSA, ASTM, NIST and other applicable Calibration standards and is experienced in the use of typical production inspection gages, calipers ,comparators, micrometers, vision systems and CMM’s.

  • Carries out other general responsibilities as required by site management.

  • Conducts supplier audits as required for special gage needs reviews supplier certifications for conformance to QS/ISO requirements.

  • Participates in customer visits and acts as the company calibration representative during complaint resolution, and internal and external audits, with respect to gages and calibration issues.

  • Develops and analyzes statistical data with respect to MSA including GR&R, gage linearity, reliability and repeatability.

  • Identifies new techniques, and technologies to be used in gage control and calibration.

  • May participate in advanced product inspections and layouts as required.

  • May participate in automotive PPAP submissions by conducting gage R&R’s.

  • Participates in product design review where new or unique gauging is required to meet customer specifications.

  • Basic programming skills in, CMM & Vision Systems (desired).

  • Maintains supplier Database of Certified (A2LA) calibration sources also reviews and maintains existing service contracts and vendor certifications.

  • Knowledge ISO 9001 & ISO 13485 standards as they relate to instrument calibration.

  • Strong background in Metrology and GD&T. Knowledge of automated inspection equipment including Vision Systems and Coordinate Measuring Machines.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with various levels of priority. Must be able to coordinate the requirements of daily production and inspection services to achieve timely response to calibration needs.

  • Good communication skills; must be able to present ideas, results and requirements effectively through out the organization on a timely basis.

  • Skills in applied statistics, reliability, and MSA (gage R&R).

  • Must have computer skills capable of utilizing various software packages commonly used in gage management, gage databases, SPC, word processing and data acquisition.

  • Well organized with strong interpersonal skills. 


  • Associates degree with minimum of 3 years experience or the equivalent in quality assurance in a calibration or gage control function in a metal stamping, injection molding or related industry.

  • Certified Mechanical Inspector or Certified Calibration Technician (desired).

  • Knowledge in the areas of SPC and automotive MSA (gage R&R).

  • Actively continuing training through, courses and seminars (desired).
