Tool & Die Maker - Bloomfield CT - 1st & 2nd Shift

The Tool and Die Maker position is broken into three classes A, B, and C as described below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Class A toolmaker carries out several essential functions.
-
Capable of building and troubleshooting both high speed progressive dies and close tolerance insert molds using precious metal materials.

Capable of working with extremely small parts and thin stampings typically .003 thousandths thick or less material.

Capable of holding close tolerances on precision tooling, typically .0002 or better on a day to day basis.

Capable of setting up all tool room equipment such as jig bores, Bridgeport milling machines, lathes, hardness testers and surface grinders.

Capable of interpreting and working to engineering drawings and standards.

Capable of programming tool room CNC equipment utilizing the machine-tool on-board conversational software.

Manufacture quality parts while meeting production demand.

Self-Inspection for quality of all parts manufactured while utilizing inspection equipment.

Capable of performing machine maintenance and diagnosing machine problems with minimal supervision.

Continuously practices efficient techniques and creativity.

The Class B toolmaker has similar functions as the Class A toolmaker but specializes in either die making or mold making.

The Class C toolmaker has similar functions as the Class A toolmaker but specializes in tool repair and does not fulfill the skill level.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works closely with design and project engineers.

Designs fixtures and prototype tooling as required.

Trains coworkers and apprentices as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-
Ability to understand insert molding and progressive die tooling in a job shop environment.

Knowledge of tool steel properties and heat treating parameters.
-
Knowledge of EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) and high speed machining capabilities.

Ability to prioritize workflow.

Ability in the area of basic computer skills (Win NT 4.0, MS Office Suite).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
